When I moved into the neighbourhood, my real estate agent took me for lunch at Mocha Mocha. The interior didn't impress me (no linen tablecloths or comfy armchairs here) but the food was superb. I've become addicted to their home made soups, made-to-order sandwiches (try the multigrain bread it's to die for), burritos, empanadas--all freshly prepared--and my grandchildren LOVE the waffles. Mostly vegetarian, which is why the JIT preparation is so important. Helpful, courteous staff (behind the counter--you go to the front to place your order, then find a table and wait for your order to be prepared and delivered to you.) Excellent salads with superb dressing--tangy, and just enough of it. No drowned lettuce and veggies here!
I'm almost reluctant to post this review because my only complaint is that I occasionally cannot find a table--the place is that busy. The owner is Peruvian-Japanese her partner is Canadian, so Mocha Mocha offers patrons the best of three worlds.
I have been to Mocha Mocha many times and enjoyed the food and atmosphere until I went today. Mocha Mocha has traumatized my lunch experience. Half way through my veggie sandwich a disgusting looking bug came running out of it. I have never been so grossed out in a restaurant before. I discretely told the lady at the cash what had happened and got quite a rude response. When the manager arrived she asked me if I would like a new sandwich, and of course, I said no thanks. When I had asked to have the food taken off the bill she was surprised but ultimately did it unwillingly. She ended up taking only the one sandwich off and I paid for the rest. Needless to say I will never go back there and am appalled with the way the situation was handled.
